Can a proxy server save files that i don't want to be saved to my computer?
A proxy server is a server in a corporate network that the client PCs use to access the Internet. The proxy server will cache (save) some of the web pages so that next time you request that web page it will not need to download the whole file, just things that changed.

Now that you know what a proxy server is, you most likely don't have one on your home network and it is not on your computer, it is a server that is on the network.

As for the IP address, that is the address of the computer that is connecting to the network or Internet. This is how computers can connect to each other, they send or receive info to by the IP address, kind of like calling a phone number, then the person on the other side calls you back. each has a number that identifies where to send the info.

Hope this clears it up for you.
Reply:A proxi sever is a website that changes the url of a web adress to a different url to bypass firewall or spyware. For example a proxi would do the following (normal adress) www.myspace.com

a proxi would take that adress and change it to something like this www.3%622#%^@#5m^$^yspac#%e.#%WSscom,com

the computer would then read the above adress instead of myspace.com allowing full access to the website. Any proxi servers, just like any website, attract pieces of data called cookies, however with proxis, no histroy will be traced, the only history that will show is the name of the proxi website. for example www.servershift.com is a proxi website, when you look at your history, you will only see servershift.com an ip adress is a website. Now back to the cookies, you can delete the cookies by opening the internet and clicking on tools, internet options, and then delete cookies, so remember a proxi server is a website, not a program.
